Equipment
Until 2012 pictures were for the most part taken using a Canon Powershot S5 digital camera equipped with a close-up lens (Canon, 500 D) together with a Sony x1.7 Tele Conversion lens.
Starting in 2012 most pictures were taken using a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX200V digital camera.
Starting in 2013, pictures were taken using a Canon Powershot SX50 HV digital camera. Beginning in 2015, this camera was replaced with its successor, the Canon Powershot SX60 HV.
In 2017 I started taking pictures with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera equipped with a 40-150 mm f/2.8 Pro zoom lens, and starting in 2018, mostly with a 300 mm f/4 lens.
My current equipment consists of an OM1 Mark II camera body with an OM System ED 150-400 mm f/4.5 PRO lens. Close-up photos of individuals in the hand are taken with an Olympus OM-1 camera body with an OM System ED 12-45 mm f/4 PRO lens. Pictures are taken under natural daylight and never using a flash or another artificial light source. Individuals that are netted for close-up photos in the hand are always released on site within minutes of capture.
Image Processing
Images are processed from RAW files using DxO Photolab and converted to JPEG format for online posting. Processing may include cropping, change in orientation, adjustments of the contrast, color balance, and saturation, noise reduction, and sharpening. Processing is normally applied to the whole picture and rarely only to parts of it. Artificial intelligence is never used to remove "distracting" objects such as leaves, twigs, etc. or to create elements that do not exist in the original picture.
