The Bar-winged Skimmer is found mostly in the eastern US and with the westernmost populations in eastern Texas. A vagrant male was unexpectedly discovered by Troy Hibbitts on 1 August 2020 at Bear Creek, Huachuca Mountains. This observation provides the first record of the species for Arizona.
